Today area residents and visitors can skate at the Stoneham Arena on Montvale Ave. Skating is also available the Flynn Rink on the Stoneham-Medford border. In winter, there is a free public skating rink on the Stoneham Common on Main Street.
The Stonham Chamber of Commerce was established in 1984 . Over the years it has expanded to include approximately 275 business members in Stoneham and neighboring communities. It continuously offers a variety of benefits and services to its members and the community at large, including community-wide events, advertising and visibility opportunities, sponsorship opportunities, advocacy at the local and state levels, networking, workshops and educational forums. They also host a number of free concerts on Thursday evenings during the summer. The Stoneham Town Common is home to the Stoneham Farmer’s Market each Thursday afternoon from the beginning of June to early October each year.
The legislative body of Stoneham’s town government is Open Town Meeting considered to be the purest form of democracy. Open Town Meeting allows for all of the Town’s voters to attend and vote on all town matters at hand. In Stoneham there is an Annual Town Meeting held on the first Monday in May as a Special Town Meeting held annually in October as set by the Select Board. Other Special Town Meetings can be held as needed.
